Evangelism

I had been in ministry for 5 years already.
I had led youth groups of 20 kids and 300 kids.
I was committed to reaching the lost with the grace of Jesus…
But I didn’t really know how to lead someone to Christ.
I mean, I knew how to present the Gospel. I knew how to ask them to raise their hands at the end of the sermon. I knew all of that stuff, but what I didn’t know was how to, in a one-on-one setting, lead someone through the process of following Jesus. I knew there was a prayer, but was there a better way?
Enter my Pastor, John Hill. In his undergrad he read a book titled, Share Jesus without Fear by William Fey. In this book, the author presented a step-by-step scriptural way to lead someone not just to the awareness that they are a sinner in need of Christ, but that the only way to eternal life is through Jesus.
And my world was shaken!
I remember reading the book and being shocked that this book was not part of the regular prescribed reading for those who want to make a difference in the world for Christ and see the lost be brought home. I felt so equipped that I began carrying a New Testament in my back pocket, ready to lead someone through the verses... And we saw more salvations in the youth group that year than any year before in my 150 year old church's history, thanks to Jesus' work.
So, if evangelism is on your heart…
If your heart breaks for the lost…
If you want to be a part of seeing hell emptied and Heaven filled, I would encourage reading this book.
And even if none of those things apply to you, I would still recommend reading it.
Because, Christian. The Great Commission is not a nice saying.
It is our mandate and call from Christ.
